Operational Expenses - Basic Financials for Business Series

This four-part workshop series is designed to empower entrepreneurs and small business owners with a foundational understanding of their company's finances. Each session builds logically on the last, taking participants from understanding individual costs to creating a complete Profit & Loss Statement. By the end of this program, attendees will have the knowledge and tools needed to make smarter, data-driven decisions for their business.

Session 3: Operational Expenses

This session covers the day-to-day costs required to keep the business running, separate from labor and the direct cost of goods.

What It Covers:

  • Defining Operational Expenses: Identifying the necessary and unavoidable costs of doing business, such as rent, utilities, marketing, insurance, and professional fees.
  • Fixed vs. Variable Expenses: Learning the critical difference between costs that remain constant (like rent) and costs that fluctuate with business activity (like marketing or shipping).
  • Tracking and Budgeting: Participants will use a worksheet to identify and list all their monthly fixed and variable operational expenses to get a complete picture of their monthly overhead.

How It Builds: This session completes the "expenses" puzzle. Armed with their Labor Costs, COGS, and now Operational Expenses, participants have all the components required to determine their business's true profitability.

Progressive Learning Structure: Each session provides essential components for the next, culminating in a comprehensive financial statement that gives business owners a clear and accurate snapshot of their company's financial performance.

Who Should Attend:

  • Entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking financial literacy
  • Startup founders preparing for investor discussions
  • Anyone responsible for business financial decision-making
  • Teams developing financial projections and business plans
  • Business owners wanting to make data-driven strategic decisions
