Manufacturing Strategy

Now, you have an idea, developed the product, and maybe even tested it with consumers....so how are you going to make it?  This is a complicated question that can make or break your company.  Make the right decisions and it can be (relatively) low stress, profitable, and increase attractiveness for acquisition.  This talk will help you to make the right decisions.  We will look at manufacturing strategy at a high level to help decide what to make in-house vs. at a contract manufacturer (CM), what makes a CM a good match for you, off-shore vs. on-shore trade offs, and managing supply chains.

Mark Fisher Bio:

Mark Fisher, Founder, Mission Consulting

Mark helps early-stage medical device and diagnostics startups and their founders understand their users and markets, create product pipeline strategy, develop a viable business plan, assemble an IP strategy and develop products from idea through production.  In addition to consulting to start ups, Mark taught product development and medical device entrepreneurship Northwestern University.  He also led the health care and medical device practice at the innovation firm IDEO where he worked for 15 years.  Mark currently works with medical device startups focused on molecular diagnostics, neurosurgery, high throughput point-of care-testing, and their associated apps.  He currently serves on a corporate board and as interim COO for Hubly Surgical and an advisory board (Everyplace Labs) where he advises on go-to market strategy, product development, manufacturing and strategic hires.   In his support of start ups, he also pulls on his extensive network of partners in areas such as product development, manufacturing, quality and regulatory.

Mark’s approach is to identify and address all issues through a risk-based lens.  This applies in areas as varied as product performance, pricing/reimbursement strategy, team building, competitive landscape and manufacturing/distribution strategy.  This methodical approach addresses the concerns of investors and maximizes the chances for success for the start-up.
