JOB SUMMARY

The BIM Coordinator plays a key role in the organization, acting as the hub of design information from the architect and engineering teams, and translating that information into 3D models, layouts, shop drawings, and CNC files used for fabrication on the shop floor. The BIM Coordinator will work directly with the BIM and Design Lead, CNC Lead and Director of Construction Services to help ensure drawings are translated effectively and successfully executed to spec on the shop floor. This is an on-site position at our manufacturing facility in Phoenix, IL, right outside of Chicago.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Produce precise, clear, and accurate shop drawings of the relevant project scope for coordination with both external project team and in-house operations personnel
• Provide data oversight and direct support to the CNC team on the shop floor maintaining integrity and quality control
• Develop or extract and prepare models/drawings from client sketches, drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Revit and other industry-standard CAD software
• Develop 2D and 3D building models of CLT components in each project in response to structural layout and details, in coordination with the BIM and Design Lead
• Release and implement the final shop drawing packet, based on the client-approved 3D model to the factory floor for manufacture, fabrication, packaging and shipping
• Produce and provide properly formatted finished part labels and package labels, adapting to and providing suggestions for continuous improvement and efficiency
• Record, track and expedite all DFMA change requests while maintaining communication and coordination between the design, project management and operations teams.
• Review projects for buildability, and balance in-house fabrication limitations and requirements with design intent, engineering and installation needs
• Coordinate with project management team on panel sequencing for install and delivery
• Manage and prioritize tasks to meet scheduled deadlines, frequently for multiple projects running simultaneously
• Assist with the development of generic and project-specific 3D assets to support AEC teams during the sales and design development process
• Generate initial product take-offs and structural panelization plans for estimating and pre-sales coordination

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

• Minimum 2-4 years of hand-on experience in BIM, DFMA and shop drawing coordination in a manufacturing or construction environment
• Background in engineering (mechanical or structural preferred), construction or technical drafting
• Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and Autodesk Fusion
• Demonstrated history of learning new software programs and workflows/processes
• Experience in digital fabrication and parametric design
• Experience with CNC and mass timber design experience, a big plus
• Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
• Project management skills
• Location in Chicago metropolitan area or willingness to relocate, with the ability to commute to the Sterling production facility in Phoenix, IL up to 5 days/week during peak operational periods
